Angel’s Review of ‘Captain America: Civil War’

Movie Description:

“Political interference in the Avengers’ activities causes a rift between former allies Captain America and Iron Man.”

This film is the greatest Superhero film of all time. It just is. I had The Dark Knight at the top since it’s release, but it wasn’t as incredible or epic as this one in terms of a Superhero film. Do I still think Dark Knight is a better movie…..yes, but there is minimal space between the two. Captain America: Civil War is just an IMPECCABLE film. Let’s get started!

Remember Captain America: Winter Soldier and how flawless each aspect of that move was? Well this next installment in the franchise was just like that movie, except it included everyone else with a better story and better performances.

I absolutely loved the story. The best part about the political conflict between Captain America and Iron-Man was they didn’t make it easy to choose who was right. This screen adaption of the original comic book storyline of Civil War clearly had Tony Stark as the villain and it was beautifully translated onto the big screen to make it more interesting I felt.

The writers, actors, and directors gave us dozens of scenes filled with thought provoking actions and consequences which consistently had me reflecting upon the question “what the heck is the right thing to do?!” It made it so much more engaging, emotional, and outrageously fun. Even the comedy in this movie worked for me, I found myself laughing until it hurt in several moments without the film ever shifting it’s overall tone, masterful work.

The dialogue in this film was just freaking perfect. It can’t get better than what I heard. Every single word that came out of anyone that spoke was not wasted and meant something significant. Each scene was elevated due to the dialogue; it’s that damn good.

My absolute favorite moments of this film were the character interactions. Holy crap. Are you kidding me with the introduction to BLACK PANTHER, ANT-MAN, & our new SPIDER-MAN?! It’s was beyond mind-blowing, there has to be a new word for it, I just haven’t found the right word to truly capture the essence and describe the compelling sequences we get with all these characters. The Russo Brothers (directors) gave each and every character the perfect amount of meaningful screen time to each of them. They understood these characters and their motivations, which is what made it all work so fluently.

This movie had everything in it, anything and everything you could ask for in a film. It made me express every emotion from happiness, sadness, anger, conflicted, surprised, scared, and etc. The ability to implement the outstanding action sequences with several storylines at the same time containing immense emotional force makes this film the most advanced and prevailing film of the superhero genre ever.

There were endless amount of moments where I thought “OH MY FREAKING GOODNESS” my heart would drop and I wanted to stand up out of my seat with enthusiasm screaming from the top of my lungs chanting “HECK YEA” because of how happy I was.

Tom Holland as Spider-Man was literally amazing. It takes someone with a presence to be Spider-Man. Tobey Maguire is and always will be my favorite Spider-Man because his performance made an enormous stamp on my life, on the person that I have become. The choices I have made in my life were influenced by Peter Parker’s core elements as a person, which sounds strange right, a fictional character has the power to do that?!

Tom Holland brought the epitome of Parker’s innocence, power, youth, and best of all, RESPONSIBILTY to the screen. I haven’t had a bigger smile on my face in the movie theater since Heath Ledger’s performance as the Joker. He was Spider-Man. What I loved most about his performance as Spider-Man is that he felt the MOST relatable because during the fight sequences he was a fanboy of the Avengers just like the majority of Avengers fans in real life are. It truly was spectacular.

The actors in Civil War are the best that we have ever seen them bring to their characters since the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The stand out performance for me was Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans.

Downey Jr. gave us a different direction with Tony Stark, a more distraught and conflicted Iron-Man. There’s one scene where it’s all about his facial performance and it’s one of the best-performed scenes ever in a comic book film. I would be so shocked not to see him get an Oscar Nomination for his performance.

I’ve always had a difficult time seeing Chris Evans as Captain America since I believed he was the epitome of Johnny Storm, which he played in Fantastic 4. That started to deteriorate once I saw WINTER SOLDIER and it completely disappeared when I saw this film. Chris Evans is Captain America. He was the pure hearted super solider.

I loved the villain. The villain was intellectual with a brilliantly written motivation and agenda in this film beautifully played by Daniel Brühl. It made sense as to why he was doing what he was doing, and did he succeed….you’ll have to find out. He makes you think, “what if I were in his position…is he wrong for doing what he’s doing?” This villain could have been anyone, so it’s weird that they would give him the name of an iconic Captain America villain without keeping the original character elements, but putting that aside, I thought this was a realistic, necessary, menacing, and inevitable villain.

I can honestly write a novel of why this movie is absolutely EXCEPTIONAL! It’s way more than exceptional, I feel so bad for UNDERSTATING how phenomenal this movie was. I’m so ecstatic about it blowing my expectations out of proportion. My voice honestly hurts from talking about how remarkable CIVIL WAR is and the progressive milestone it has left on the genre.

Overall, GO SEE THIS FILM PLEASE TREAT YOURSELF! This is Marvel’s masterpiece. This is the Superhero genre’s masterpiece. I loved every single thing about it. THE STORY WAS AMAZING, THE CHARACTERS WERE AMAZING, THE DIALOGUE WAS AMAZING, THE THEMES WERE AMAZING, THE VILLAIN WAS AMAZING, THE ACTION SEQUENCES WERE AMAZING, THE SOUNDTRACK/SCORE WAS AMAZING, THE DIRECTION WAS AMAZING, THE PERFORMANCES WERE AMAZING, AND THE EXPERIENCE WAS something to never forget. I loved this movie so much. My rating for this film is 10/10! OMG!! 🙂
