Review: Eighth Grade (No Spoilers)

By Angel

Movie Description: “An introverted teenage girl tries to survive the last week of her disastrous eighth grade year before leaving to start high school.”

An honest portrait of the coming of age story in the modern world. I ADORED it, especially the helpful life tips and how they were incorporated in the story! This is the type of rare movie with a beautiful soul that has the ability to make people reflect and love themselves, regardless of all the hatred they may encounter. The music was one of the most surprising elements, sounding as cool as a TRON soundtrack while also being utilized for laughs. The performances were unbelievably nuanced and the relationships between the characters felt real. There’s an intense and uncomfortable scene in the movie that shook me to my core, it was impressive how the tone changed whenever necessary. Exceptional directorial debut that deserves ‘A MUST SEE’ recommendation!

Be yourself. Put yourself out there. Confidence is a choice. You can’t be brave without being scared. Don’t be afraid of growing up. It’s not nice to be mean. Always move forward.
